Ted Cruz to the press: Tell the FCC where they can put their questionnaire

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, shared some great jokes from the Gridiron dinner on Saturday, but he also had some serious remarks for the Washington journalists who were gathered at their annual dinner.

"Thank you for speaking truth to power. I hope you do so even more," he said. "Whichever party is in power in this town, you're always at your best when you show a little fight, and America counts on that independent spirit."

According to Mike Allen, Cruz also mentioned the controversial Federal Communications Commission study that made headlines last month for proposing a system to monitor news organizations.

"I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the day when those FCC monitors start showing up in newsrooms, and you tell them where they can put their questionnaires," he concluded. "And remind them how a free press works in this country."
