Rafael Cruz, a Texas pastor and father of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, joined the Heritage Foundation in Wilmington, Del. Thursday night for a town hall on the proposal to defund Obamacare.

Cruz pointed out that Obamacare would be a disaster for America, warning of the “heavy boot of centralized government” similar to his experience growing up in Cuba.

Socialized medicine under Fidel Castro, Cruz explained, destroyed the premier health care in Cuba. He recalled that the University of Havana was once known worldwide for its medical instruction.

“Today, that medical system is gone,” he said.

Under President Obama, Cruz warned, the quality of American life had eroded, thanks to taxation and regulation.

“Let me tell you, the Obama administration has both their hands in your pocket,” Cruz explained. “They are trying to take every hard earned dollar that you make and give it out in handouts to buy votes.”

Cruz reminded Americans not to be complacent while their freedoms were slowly being taken away by their government.

“I’ll tell you something,” Cruz added, “They may take our lives, they can take our fortunes, but they can not take our honor.”
