A 17-year-old boy is being charged as an adult in connection with a shooting in Olney that may have been drug-related, police said.

Daniel Alexander Paynter, of Olney, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery, according to Montgomery County Police. His bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Paynter allegedly shot a 22-year-old Rockville man in the 3900 block of Morningwood Drive around 10:30 p.m. Monday. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to survive, police said.

Paynter, the victim and another man were all inside a vehicle when the shooting occurred, police said. Detectives are still trying to determine the relationship between the three occupants, but they believe that the incident may have been drug-related.

Information from witnesses allowed detectives to identify Paynter as a suspect.
