Police say a 17-year-old girl has been charged with reckless driving after she fell asleep behind the wheel and caused a fatal crash, police said.

Late Saturday night, the girl, whose name police said they would not release because she is a juvenile, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Dumfries Road near Talon Drive. She fell asleep, police said, and her car crossed into northbound traffic and struck four other vehicles, including a 2000 Mercury Marquis.

The Mercury's driver, 51-year-old Qasim S. Alaway, of Fredericksburg, was taken to a hospital and died the next morning, Prince William County police said. No one else was injured.
