A teenage boy was critically injured when he was struck by a taxicab in Temple Hills that fled the scene of the incident, police said.

About 6:25 p.m. Thursday, police went to the 4700 block of Wheeler Road and found the boy in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Prince George's County police spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland said.

The taxi that struck the teen left the scene. A witness gave police a description of the vehicle, and police said officers located the cab at the Southern Avenue Metro Station. The taxi's driver was taken into custody, and charges are pending against him, Copeland said.
