A District teenager who tried to steal the car of an off-duty D.C. police officer in Clinton has been arrested, police said.

Demetrice Littles, 19, faces charges including first-degree assault and kidnapping, according to Prince George's County police.

Friday morning, the officer saw a man approach his family's car where his 9-year-old daughter was sitting. The girl jumped out of the car safely, and the man then started to drive across the front lawn toward the officer. The officer shot at the car, the vehicle crashed, and its driver fled in a different vehicle, police said.

Littles was identified as a suspect after he sought treatment for a gunshot wound.
