Pictures of the smoking electric vehicle appeared on the Tesla Motors Club website. The accident is said to have taken place in Smyrna, Tennessee. In a statement from the company published by Reuters, Tesla said the driver was not injured and that the fire resulted from an accident. According to a spokesperson for the company, personnel is headed to Tennessee to learn more about the accident. Earlier this summer, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Tesla Model S a 5 star safety rating.
