Mu'min owns a locally based personal chef services company called Pretty and Delicious. A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, she is also a contestant on "The Taste," a reality television show which airs Tuesday nights on ABC.

Can you give readers a brief overview of "The Taste"?

"The Taste" is a food competition with some legendary culinary personalities like Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson, Chef Ludo [Lefebvre] and Brian Malarkey. And your whole fate as a chef or a home cook in all of these challenges rests in one bite, one spoonful of food. So they don't get to see us, they don't know who's done what. So it's all about the taste -- hence the name.

What's it like to be a contestant on a reality television show?

It's crazy! It's a very fun, but very intense, experience ... You never know what's going to happen, and things don't always turn out the way that you want ... It is reality, so you just kind of got to roll with it just like life.

What surprised you most about being on a reality TV show?

How much more complicated something that I love to do and I do on a regular basis became once it was in front of cameras. I think we all went into it like, 'We can cook, no problem!' and then it's like, 'Wait, there's all these different things happening' and you're like 'Wait a minute! It's not like when I cook in the restaurant or when I cook for clients!' It's a lot different, a lot faster paced.

What type of food do you like to cook?

I love comfort food, but I also cook healthy food, too. I think it's important for us to take care of ourselves and be here a lot longer, and our diet shouldn't be the thing that makes us unhealthy.
