Two former leaders of a non-profit have been sentenced for looking the other way as former D.C. Councilman Harry Thomas Jr. embezzled nearly $400,000 in taxpayer money meant for youth programs.
Marshal Banks and James Garvin, of the Langston in the 21st Century Foundation, were sentenced Thursday to three years of supervised probation and ordered to pay full restitution for helping conceal the misuse of $392,000 in grants from the D.C. government.
Banks and Garvin were among five people to plead guilty to charges in an ongoing investigation into activities involving Thomas, who was sentenced last year to 38 months in prison for stealing $353,000 in public money.
