Woman sexually assaulted in Fairfax County home

A 27-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside her Fairfax County home early Sunday morning, police said.

The sleeping woman was awoken by a man sexually assaulting her. When she challenged her attacker he fled on foot, Fairfax County police said.

The man appears to have entered the home, located in the 13000 block of Winding Oak Circle in Centreville, through an unlocked door, police said. Electronics were taken from the residence.

The attacker was described as possibly Hispanic, 25 to 35 years old and about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. Anyone with information can call Crime Solvrs at 866-411-TIPS (8477).

3 hospitalized in 12-car crash involving bus

Three people were taken to the hospital after a Montgomery County crash Monday involving a Ride On bus and 11 other vehicles, according to police and fire officials.

Police were called to the crash near Rockville Pike and Nicholson Lane at about 1:40 p.m. Montgomery County police spokeswoman Officer Janelle Smith said the bus hit the cars. The cause of the crash has not been determined.

Couple charged with arson

A Springfield couple has been charged with intentionally setting a house on fire in 2008, officials said.

German Balladares, 56, and Sandra Balladares, 41, were charged Friday with burning a house and with burning a structure with intent to defraud an insurance company or other person, according to Fairfax County fire officials.

The single-family house fire occurred on June 7, 2008, at 7209 Neuman St., Springfield. A firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident, and damage to the home was estimated at $75,000, officials said.
