No bond for stepson accused of killing D.C. cop

A man who is accused of killing his D.C. police detective stepfather was ordered to be held without bond Wednesday, according to court records.

Antwan James, 27, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 46-year-old Joseph Newell.

Police said that James killed his stepfather at their Upper Marlboro home Monday night after a dispute over yard work. James had fled the scene but turned himself into police late Tuesday.

James has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 20 in Prince George's County District Court.

Bethesda pedestrian struck in hit-and-run

A Bethesda woman remained hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by a car whose driver then fled the scene, and authorities are asking the public for help in finding the driver and the vehicle.

According to Montgomery County Police, Michelle Eyre De Sam, 35, was crossing Rockville Pike in a crosswalk at Cedar Lane at about 9:30 p.m. Friday when she was struck by a passing vehicle.

De Sam was found unconscious in the roadway, and taken to a hospital in serious condition, where she remains. She is expected to survive.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who saw something suspicious can call police at 301-279-8000. Crimes Solvers is offering a reward of $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in this felony crime.

Man fatally shot in Southeast D.C.

A 32-year-old man was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. Tuesday night, officials said.

Police went to the 3500 block of 18th Street SE about 10 p.m. and found Rahmaan Jamal Ward unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ward, of Southeast, was later pronounced dead at a hospital, D.C. police spokeswoman Saray Leon said. No suspect and motive information was immediately available.
