Two injured in Hyattsville shooting

Two people were injured early Sunday morning in an incident at a Hyattsville gas station where 19 shots were fired, according to police.

The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. at the Shell station on the 5300 block of Queens Chapel Road, police said. A man leaving his car was shot in the stomach and buttocks by an occupant of a dark-colored compact car that had been driving around the parking lot.

Another victim, a woman believed to have been hit with stray bullets while she was paying for gas, drove herself to the hospital and was treated, police said. Neither person suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police said the shooting was not random and as of Sunday were trying to determine if an earlier altercation had occurred.

Loudoun homeowner shoots, kills intruder

A Loudoun County homeowner shot and killed an intruder early Sunday morning, police said.

The resident, who lived on the 45900 block of Pullman Court in Sterling, Va., reported that there was an unknown male in the house at 2:30 a.m., according to police. The homeowner then fatally shot the intruder.

It was not yet clear whether the intruder was armed or had threatened anyone in the house.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office was investigating the shooting as of Sunday.

Man dies in Clinton car accident

A man involved in a car crash at 5:30 a.m. in Clinton has died, police said.

Officers responding to the crash on Temple Hill Road near the Salima Street intersection found the driver suffering from trauma, police said. He was transported to an area hospital where later that morning he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved. Police were still investigating the crash as of Sunday.
