Woman stabbed on Metrobus

A woman was stabbed on a Metrobus early New Year's Day.

The incident happened about 2:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE in Anacostia. A woman told the bus driver that she had been stabbed by another passenger, said Metro spokeswoman Caroline Lukas.

The woman and another woman apparently had been in a fight with at least one man.

One woman was stabbed in the chest and right shoulder. The other woman was struck in the head.

Both women were taken to a hospital and expected to survive.

The male assailant left the bus and fled the scene before the bus driver knew what had happened, Lukas said.

Officials are reviewing surveillance video from the bus.

Three people were killed on Metrobuses in 2012, including a woman who was shot while clutching her child in December.

Prince William County mourns loss of motorcycle officer

Prince William County police are mourning the loss of Officer Chris Yung, who was killed when his motorcycle struck another vehicle while he was responding to a call.

Yung, 35, was driving to the scene of a crash at about 2 p.m. Monday when a minivan made a left-hand turn into a shopping center at the intersection of Nokesville Road and Piper Lane, crossing in front of Yung's motorcycle, according to a preliminary investigation.

No charges have been filed. A roadside memorial was set up at the intersection where the accident occurred, and shrouded police cruisers have been placed at district stations in Woodbridge and Manassas. A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday night near the crash site, in the Target parking lot in Bristow.
