Starbucks customer sexually attacked

A 23-year-old woman told police that a man with a knife sexually assaulted her and attempted to rob her in Fairfax County, officials said. The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, on the 7700 block of Richmond Highway, after the woman got a cup of coffee from a Starbucks. The woman told police that she was at her car when a man approached her, displayed a knife and demanded money. The man then sexually assaulted her.

Kitten stolen from Humane Society

A kitten has been stolen from a Washington Humane Society adoption center, officials said. Callista, a kitten who is about 8 weeks old, disappeared late Sunday afternoon from the Humane Society's adoption center on New York Avenue NE, officials said. The organization is offering a $1,000 reward for the kitten's safe return and/or identification of the thief or thieves. The Humane Society is reviewing security footage as part of their investigation. Anyone with information on the theft can call 202-576-6664.

Md. troopers issue thousands of traffic citations

Maryland State Police said troopers issued thousands of citations and made more than 200 arrests over the Memorial Day weekend. Police officials announced Tuesday that troopers stopped more than 9,700 vehicles over four days and issued about 6,828 traffic citations and 5,164 warnings. Troopers also arrested 102 motorists on the charge of impaired driving, 51 people for drug offenses and 73 others for a variety of other criminal violations. Police warned that troopers will continue to participate in other initiatives throughout the summer travel season.
