Police: Magruder High student caught with gun on campus

A Magruder High School senior had a handgun in his backpack on school grounds Thursday morning, officials said.

The 17-year-old boy was charged as an adult with possession of a weapon on school property and other weapon-related charges, Montgomery County police said.

The student was not supposed to be on campus at the Rockville school Thursday because he was suspended. When a school resource officer asked the teen to leave, the student refused and was arrested on a trespassing charge.

After the arrest, an "older," unloaded, .22-caliber H&R handgun was found in the student's backpack, police said. According to a letter sent home with students, the firearm was inoperable.

No one was injured during the incident.

Motel clerk beaten, sexually assaulted

A clerk at a motel in Woodbridge was sexually assaulted by a masked man, Prince William County police said.

According to a police, about 10 p.m. Wednesday, a 33-year-old clerk at the Econo Lodge at 13317 Gordon Blvd. received a call to let someone into one of the motel rooms. As the woman walked to the room, she was approached from behind in the stairwell by a masked man who then forced her into the room at knife point.

The woman was knocked unconscious and sexually assaulted, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, who would not give any further details about the attack.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and police are still investigating.
