Man pinned under tractor-trailer in Prince George's

It took rescue crews about 40 minutes to free a man pinned under a rolled-over tractor-trailer Thursday in Prince George's County.

Prince George's Fire and EMS units found the overturned truck at a gravel pit on the 14700 block of Gibbons Church Road in Brandywine. The vehicle was dumping a load of gravel when it started to list to the left and fell, trapping the driver between the gravel and the truck's cab.

Firefighters stabilized the truck and cut away parts of the cab, under which the driver was pinned. The man was finally removed and was flown to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his legs.

Teen killed on way to school

A 15-year-old Laurel boy was struck and killed by a car while walking to school, police said.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. Thursday, near the intersection of Route 198 and Russett Green East.

Police said Jaelin D. Ashe, of Laurel, appeared to be crossing against the pedestrian traffic signal when he was struck by a Chevrolet Camaro. Police said the driver had the green light. Ashe, was a freshman at Meade High School.

Pedestrian dies after Northeast hit-and-run

A pedestrian died after he was struck in a hit-and-run crash in Northeast D.C., police said.

About 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, a black, four-door Dodge Charger with dark tinted windows was traveling on the 3000 block of 20th Street Northeast and then came to an abrupt stop at the corner of 20th Street and Rhode Island Avenue. A female passenger exited the Dodge, and the car sped off and struck John Allan Schmidt, 47, who was walking in the road, D.C. police said.

After hitting Schmidt, the Dodge backed up, and the female passenger got back into the car. The Dodge then sped off.
