Dad arrested for drugs, weapons after boy, 5, swallows methadone

A Severn man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after his 5-year-old son accidentally drank methadone and stopped breathing, Anne Arundel County police said.

After the boy was revived and taken to a hospital, police searched the house and found cocaine, marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine -- enough to suggest the drugs were intended for distribution -- as well as more methadone, police said. Police also found a loaded .357 Magnum and a .22-caliber rifle, they said.

Paul Kristopher Brooks, 28, was arrested on numerous drug charges and two counts of possession of a firearm in commission of a drug trafficking crime, plus one count of firearm accessible to a minor.

Police: P.G. high schooler stabs fellow student

A student at Northwestern High School in Prince George's County is believed to have stabbed a fellow student near the school Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on the 6700 block of Belcrest Road, police said. P.G. schools spokesman Briant Coleman said the two students involved were males and that the school was temporarily placed on lockdown after the incident because the stabbing occurred in the community near the school.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Coleman said. Police couldn't confirm whether the 17-year-old suspect was in custody by press time and couldn't comment on a potential motive.
