Lorton man drowned in Pohick Bay

A Lorton man who was seen fishing in a kayak in Pohick Bay drowned, police said.

About 3:30 p.m. Monday, 58-year-old John R. Funk was in a boat that capsized about 100 yards from shore. Although witnesses saw Funk swimming to shore, yelled to him and ran to get help, he quickly disappeared under the water, Fairfax County police said.

Funk was not wearing a life jacket, officials said, and there wasn't one in the kayak.

Man arrested for alleged sexual activity with 14-year-old

A Capitol Heights man was arrested after he allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.

Kirk Douglas Yancey, 34, was charged with third-degree sex offense and solicitation of a minor, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

The girl had been communicating with someone who claimed to be a 17-year-old boy over a social networking website. They agreed to meet, and after they engaged in sexual activity, Yancey told the girl that he was 24 years old, authorities said.

Detectives believe that there may be other victims. Anyone with information can call 301-609-6522.

P.G. police look for clues in high school homicides

Prince George's County police are scheduled to hold separate events Wednesday about two homicides that claimed the lives of high schoolers.

Police and Kettering residents will hold a community walk at 6 p.m. to distribute flyers concerning the slaying of 17-year-oldAmber Stanley, who was fatally shot inside her home on Aug. 22.

At 7 p.m., police have planned a meeting to discuss the death of 18-year-oldMarckel Ross, who was gunned down on Sept. 11 as he walked to Central High School. The meeting will be held at the school, located at 200 Cabin Branch Road in Capitol Heights.

No arrests have been made in either slaying.
