Gunman targeted UMd students

Prince George's County police are investigating two armed robberies and an attempted robbery of University of Maryland students in College Park.

In the first incident, about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the culprit used a gun to rob a male student near the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue. The student suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by a family member.

Minutes later, the culprit tried to rob a second male student on the 8200 block of Baltimore Avenue.

In the third incident, about 8:50 p.m., a female student was robbed at gunpoint, also on the 8200 block of Baltimore Avenue.

The robber in all three incidents is described as a black male, wearing a black hoodie and armed with a handgun.

Boy falls from 9th floor

A 4-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County police and fire officials said the boy fell out a window at an apartment on the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road.

The incident happened about 3:15 p.m. Thursday, and authorities said the boy suffered injuries to his head and legs. He was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Killing near Gallaudet

A man was fatally shot near Gallaudet University, D.C. police said.

About 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, police heard of gunshots coming from the area of the 1100 block of Eighth Street NE. Officers went to the scene and found 21-year-old Gregory Darnell Troxler suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Troxler, who was from Northeast D.C., was pronounced dead at the medical examiner's office.

Neither the incident nor the victim were connected to Gallaudet.
