Former D.C. candidate sentenced for theft

A lawyer and former D.C. Council candidate was sentenced to six months behind bars for embezzling money intended for his clients. Deairich Hunter pleaded in January to theft of more than $100,000 in payments from insurance companies that were intended to settle some of his clients' disability and personal injury claims. He admitted to settling claims without the knowledge of his clients and keeping the money for himself. Hunter unsuccessfully ran for an at-large D.C. Council seat in 2008.

D.C. pediatrician charged with child-porn possession

A Southeast D.C. pediatrician has been charged with possessing child pornography, court papers show. Robert Paul Dickey had been viewing a website with graphic images of children when authorities entered his office Wednesday to execute a search warrant, according to a charging document. The doctor also admitted to law enforcement during the search that he regularly visits child porn websites and downloads pornographic images. Law enforcement were alerted to Dickey's interest in child porn in April, when they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that the doctor had uploaded about 14 child-porn images.

Teen killed in crash

A 17-year-old boy has been killed in a single-car crash in Prince George's County, police said. The teen was driving in the 11900 block of Brandywine Road in Clinton at about 3 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of his Acura, left the roadway and struck a tree. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, Prince George's County police said. Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but they said that weather does not appear to be a factor. The teen was wearing his seat belt.
