President Obama, aside from his appearance at the Democratic National Convention, has not campaigned in North Carolina since April of this year.
“I don’t have a scheduling update for you on that or any specific announcements to make,” Obama for America spokeswoman Jen Psaki said when asked if Obama would campaign in North Carolina any time soon. The reporter who asked the question said “I think the last event he held there, aside from the convention, was April 24th” — when he visited the University of North Carolina campus to talk about student loans.
Psaki did promise that Obama would eventually return to North Carolina. “We have said, of course, that because of the unfortunate change we had to make with the stadium move, that when we’re there next we’re going to make sure we invite the people who were unable to attend to attend,” she told reporters.
In May, Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage. The revelation came one day after a North Carolina ballot initiative banning gay marriage passed with 60 percent support.
Vice President Joe Biden talked about winning North Carolina during a recent campaign stop. “With you, we can win North Carolina again, and if we do, we win the election!” Biden told his audience, in Virginia.
