A toddler was struck and killed by a car and another toddler was injured in Oxon Hill Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Audrey Lane.

A 3-year-old boy was in a car with his grandmother when the vehicle began to drift backwards, Prince George's County police spokeswoman Cpl. Maria McKinney said.

The father, who was outside the vehicle and was holding a 2-year-old girl, noticed that the car was moving. He dropped the 2-year-old and jumped into the vehicle to try to regain control of it. But during the incident, the boy had fallen out of the vehicle and was struck.

The 3-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died. The 2-year-old was injured by being dropped, McKinney said.
