Tom Colicchio puts heat on Congress over food policy

"Top Chef" judge Tom Colicchio showcased his wonky side Wednesday, partaking in a press conference to announce a new initiative to grade lawmakers on their food votes. The first ever Food Policy Action scorecard looked at how congressmen voted on such issues as hunger, food safety and farm subsidies. Colicchio, who sits on the organization's board, said the effort wasn't partisan.

"I don't think this is about politics, this is about values," Colicchio said. While it's true that Democrats topped the list, many Republicans received higher than average scores too. Colicchio, who has an executive producer's credit on a forthcoming hunger documentary "A Place at the Table," also seemed rankled that the presidential candidates were never asked any debate questions about hungry Americans. "I find it very interesting that through three presidential and one vice presidential debate not once was food mentioned or hunger mentioned ... the questions never came up," he said. "It's not part of the national discourse yet and that has to change."
