Train catches fire after derailment in Lynchburg


LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Authorities are responding to a trail derailment along the James River in downtown Lynchburg, prompting evacuations of numerous buildings in the area.

Media outlets report that the derailment occurred Wednesday afternoon. No injuries have been reported.

Photos and video from the scene show several tanker-like train cars derailed and extensive flames and smoke.

A phone message left by The Associated Press with the Lynchburg Police Department wasn't immediately returned.
