Prince George's County fire officials performed an unusual rescue after a motorist thought he heard "meowing" from the hood of his car.

A driver of a Lexus sedan drove up to the Kentland fire station on Landover Road on Tuesday morning and said that he believed a cat was in his engine, according to fire officials.

He was right. Captain Eric C. Hurt discovered the male kitten between the front wheel well and the vehicle's engine.

Firefighters dismantled the area around the wheel well and rescued the scared feline. The kitten, about 7 weeks old, was in the care of the Prince George's County Animal Management Division in Upper Marlboro on Wednesday.
