WASHINGTON (AP) — Less than a month after joining the race to become the District of Columbia's first elected attorney general, a prominent white-collar defense attorney has dropped out.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1jrmiYu ) reports Mark Tuohey dropped out of the race Wednesday.

Tuohey is a former federal prosecutor who played a role in bringing Major League Baseball back to Washington. More recently, he has defended Jeanne Clarke Harris, a central figure in the campaign-finance scandal that damaged Mayor Vincent Gray.

The D.C. Council had sought to postpone the city's first election for the office until 2018, but an appeals court invalidated that law, putting an election on the fast track for this year. Paul Zukerberg, who sued the council over its move, and Edward Smith have said they will run.
