Two 21-year-olds were arrested Tuesday in connection with a 2007 slaying in Northeast D.C., police said.

Northeast D.C. residents Charles Mason and Jekwon Smith were arrested on charges of first-degree murder while armed in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Michael Antonio Pearson, according to D.C. police.

On Oct. 29, 2007, officers went to the 2100 block of I Street NE and found Pearson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A police spokesman said he did not know the motive for the shooting and did not know why arrests were made years after the incident.
