Charges are pending against a Maryland woman who police say was under the influence of alcohol when she caused a collision that seriously injured herself and her passenger.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Route 5 and Oliver Shop Road in Charles County.

Maryland State Police said Quiana Lashawn Hill, 30, of Morganza, was driving her 2005 Ford Freestyle too fast and struck the rear of the tanker trailer that was being towed by 2006 Peterbuilt Truck Tractor.

Hill and her passenger were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The tractor's driver, a 56-year-old Virginia man, was treated at the scene.

While talking with Hill, troopers detected the odor of alcohol on her breath. Preliminary test results indicated that her blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit, police said.
