U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki said on Thursday he would take "timely action" to deal with allegations that veterans died while waiting for medical care at VA facilities in Phoenix while officials masked months-long waiting time for appointments. Shinseki, in written testimony to the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, said he was "personally angered and saddened" by the allegations, but it was important for the agency's Office of the Inspector General to conduct a thorough review.
