The leading ride-sharing services have expanded their insurance policies to take more responsibility for drivers between passenger pick-ups. Starting today, Uber will cover drivers on its UberX service the entire time they have the app turned on, whether they are shuttling a passenger to a destination or just driving around waiting to be hailed. Competing service Lyft also said in an emailed statement it has changed its policy to include the times when drivers are between fares. For these in-between periods, Uber’s insurance policy will now cover up to $50,000 per individual for bodily injuries in a single incident, and up to $100,000 per incident for bodily injuries. A spokeswoman said in an email, Lyft’s updated policy will roll out on a state-by-state basis over the next few days.
