< p>MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The National Science Foundation has awarded the University of Montana School of Journalism a $250,000 grant to develop a model for reporting environmental science news.

Journalism instructor Alison Perkins says the school will use student reporters studying environmental science and natural resource journalism as its writers.

Perkins tells the Missoulian (http://bit.ly/PT2DMq) the reporting will be based on the science behind the issues.

She says the National Science Foundation is interested in making people more informed on what is happening in rural and Native communities, particularly in matters of natural resource development.

Perkins says the program is called Science Source and she is now working to establish partnerships with news organizations across the state.
