ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The University of Michigan regents have approved $174.5 million in renovations at two large dormitories, consolidating food service at South Quadrangle.

The regents voted Thursday to approve $114.5 million in renovations to West Quadrangle and $60 million to neighboring South Quad, which will feed residents of both central campus dorms.

AnnArbor.com (http://bit.ly/YeSLDI ) says South Quad's dining hall will expand from 650 to 950 seats. The university is closing the West Quad and Betsy Barbour dorm cafeterias.

The regents also have approved the appointment of Martha Pollack as provost, Mark West as law school dean and outgoing liberal arts college dean Terrence J. McDonald as Bentley Historical Library director.

And they've approved a $27.5 million facility for bones, artifacts, labs and offices now housed at the Ruthven Museum and other locations.
