The District's unemployment rate has fallen again.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday that the city's jobless figure for September 2012, which stood at 10.4 percent a year ago, declined to 8.7 percent.

In August, the unemployment rate for the District was 8.8 percent.

Unemployment also dipped in Maryland, falling to 6.9 percent from 7.1 percent in August.

Presidential battleground Virginia held steady at 5.9 percent.

The national unemployment rate is 7.8 percent, and the next report is due on Nov. 1 -- the Friday before Election Day.
