MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A new exhibit at the University of South Alabama showcases archaeological finds in the Mobile area spanning the last 14,000 years.

Starting Sunday, the public can glimpse a collection of tens of thousands of those artifacts.

The rarest date back more than 10,000 years. They include stone spear points used by the region's earliest residents. Al.com (http://bit.ly/R55nZH ) reports that many artifacts from that era are now underwater in the Gulf of Mexico because of sea level rise.

Archaeology Museum director Greg Waselkov said archaeologists working at the university have investigated about 1,200 sites over the last few decades.
