US energy secretary to make 2 stops in Virginia

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz is headed to Virginia to promote President Barack Obama's job-creation initiatives in the energy sector.

Moniz is scheduled to visit Hampton University on Friday after visiting the Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab in Newport News. Moniz will tour Hampton's campus then meet with students in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.

Hampton is a historically black university with a national reputation for so-called STEM education.

Moniz said he will highlight opportunities available in the energy sector and emphasize the value of a STEM education.
