The stock market slipped Wednesday, after rising for six straight days, as investors worked through another round of quarterly earnings reports from U.S. companies. A worse-than-expected report on the housing market also weighed on the broader market. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell one point to 1,878. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 21 points to 16,495 and the Nasdaq composite lost 20 points to 4,141.
