CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Police in the U.S. Virgin Islands have arrested two men and one teenager in connection with an armed robbery and the shooting of a police chief and another officer.

A Monday police statement alleges Alphonso Butler was arrested with a large amount of cash and ammunition. He is being held with second suspect Melville Parris after the two men were unable to post $500,000 bail. A 16-year-old was also arrested.

St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell and Officer Elsworth Jones are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The two officers were shot late Saturday at a roadblock they set up trying to catch gunmen who held up a restaurant.

Commissioner Henry White says Howell was shot in the left arm and lower back. Jones' face was injured by shrapnel.
