UTC disputes GOP claims of major layoffs at Otis

FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — The Republican governor candidates say more than 100 jobs at a United Technologies Corp. subsidiary are leaving Connecticut for Florida, but the company reports something different.

United Technologies' building and industrial systems said Wednesday "approximately 25 to 50 North America based employees" will be relocated to Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and elsewhere. It's unclear how many, if any, are from Connecticut.

Republicans Tom Foley and John McKinney issued statements this week blaming Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for the alleged job losses.

On Tuesday, McKinney claimed "Otis Elevators is moving hundreds of jobs to Florida," blaming Malloy's "reckless approach to state government."

Then on Wednesday, Foley cited a blog that claimed more than 100 jobs at Otis and Carrier are moving to Florida. Foley blamed Malloy for not preventing it.
