UVa ranks 2nd on Peace Corps volunteer list

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia is one of the top ranking schools in the country in the production of Peace Corps volunteers.

On Tuesday, the Peace Corps released the latest rankings of schools in the large, medium and small schools categories.

Currently there are 44 former U.Va. students serving in countries across the world. Those numbers rank U.Va. second in the medium-sized school category.

The Peace Corps was established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy to promote service and understanding around the world.

Since the Corps' founding, alumni from more than 3,000 colleges and universities have served in the Peace Corps.
