ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A sentencing hearing continues in Roanoke County Circuit Court for a man convicted of capital murder.

Prosecutors are seeing the death penalty for Carey Shane Padgett.

Padgett had pleaded guilty last October to capital murder, abduction and robbery. He was arrested in July 2010 after he told police he smoked marijuana with Cara Marie Holley in a field, and then beat her with a tire iron and buried her body in Franklin County.

Media outlets report that the multiday hearing will resume Monday morning.
