Va. governor announces new appointments

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Terry McAuliffe has announced another round of appointments, including posts dealing with labor and industry and public safety.

Named commissioner of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry is Carlton "Ray" Davenport. He previously was with the Virginia AFL-CIO and was commissioner of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry from 2002-2009. His duties include oversight of labor and employment laws.

Andrew K. Block Jr. has been named director of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice. He comes to state government after serving as director of the Child Advocacy Clinic at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Finally, Francine C. Ecker was named director of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice. She was a senior policy adviser for strategic planning at the National Criminal Justice Association.
