LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Urban Agriculture Summit is set to convene for two days in Lynchburg.

The summit beginning Tuesday is aimed at taking an in-depth look at urban agriculture in the state, including its challenges and opportunities. Topics include so-called food deserts and fostering urban agriculture at former industrial sites.

The summit will also include a guided tour of a nonprofit urban farm. Lynchburg Grows' mission is to help disadvantaged people enjoy the healthy benefits of gardening. The urban farm is donated more than 17,000 pounds of fresh produce to a local pantry.
