WATCH: Robo-reindeer pull Santa’s sleigh

Santa’s sleigh got a tech upgrade for Christmas this year.

In a video posted to its YouTube page, advanced robotics company Boston Dynamics shows Santa Claus’ sleigh being pulled by three mechanical “reindeer” to the tune of “Jingle Bells.” The robots are adorned with antlers and the lead “reindeer” has a red nose reminiscent of Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer.

Boston Dynamics, which is owned by Google, has a history of working with business and the federal government (including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in their advanced technology endeavors.

The “reindeer” are a type of robot dubbed “Spot,” which, according to the tech company, is a “four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated.”

Spot has sensor technology that helps it “navigate and negotiate” various types of terrain and weighs about 160 pounds.
