Richard Sher, a Baltimore reporter for 33 years, is retiring from WJZ-TV, effective Monday.

Sher will pursue other areas of interest, including teaching, public speaking, writing and freelance journalism.

“I have enjoyed a long, exciting and highly rewarding career with WJZ and have been proud to have been a part of a news team that has integrity at its very core,” Sher said in a statement. “I look forward to taking the experiences and learning over the past three decades and apply them to the areas of my other interests.”

During his tenure at WJZ, Sher has worked alongside anchor Sally Thorner, Kai Jackson, Denise Koch, Vic Carter and the entire Eyewitness Team. He also worked with the late Jerry Turner and Al Sanders, and for six years co-hosted “People Are Talking” with Oprah Winfrey. “Square-Off,” the public affairs program that Sher hosted, also earned the distinction as one of the highest rated award-winning programs in the country.
