A would-be robber in Laurel was foiled when he lost his gun to his victim.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

A man approached a group of people in the rear parking lot near a Walmart, pointed a handgun at them and demanded money, according to Anne Arundel County police.

The suspect became distracted, at which time one of the victims tackled the suspect and the two fought for control of the weapon. The victim took control of the gun, and the suspect fled. Police and the aviation unit canvassed the area, but were unable to find the suspect, described as being a thin black male, about 6-feet-1, with tattoos on his neck, wearing a black ski mask, a black windbreaker with red lettering and black nylon sweatpants.
