Virginia Republican candidate for Senate Ed Gillespie pushed the need to lower the corporate tax rate to 25 percent Monday during his recent campaign tour through Northern Virginia.

Gillespie, who is challenging Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., in November, said lowering the corporate tax rate will ultimately lead to more jobs in the Commonwealth. He also said there needs to be a higher priority on appropriately budgeting for defense. According to Gov. Terry McAuliffe, D-Va., Virginia will face a $2.4 billion budget shortfall due in large part to sequestration cuts.

Gillespie is trailing Warner by double digits, according to the most recent polling.
