Vice President Joe Biden on Friday emphasized the importance of a good education — specifically, a STEM education.
STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) is designed to prepare students for a growing number of available careers in those fields.
"We know we will have succeeded if we create a million more STEM-ready graduates that we need by 2018 to meet the growth in STEM-related occupations," said Biden. "By the end of this decade, we're going to need 200,000 more software developers, 40,000 more computer network support specialists, 500,000 more nurses, 30,000 more physicians assistants, nearly 10,000 more petroleum engineers."
Biden adds that all children have what it takes to excel in these fields of study.
"Every single child is capable of doing the work if given the right foundation," said Biden speaking at the Change the Equation summit.
