A second American who contracted the Ebola virus while working in Liberia was discharged from an Atlanta hospital Thursday after fully recovering.

Dr. Kent Brantly was released from Emory University Hospital, where he had been transported after falling ill in West Africa. The other American patient, Nancy Writebol, was released Tuesday after making her own full recovery.

"Today is a miraculous day. I am thrilled to be alive, to be well, and to be reunited with my family," Brantly said at a press conference Thursday.

Dr. Bruce Ribner, the director of Emory's infectious disease unit, emphasized the fact that both Brantly and Writebol are cleared of the Ebola virus and are not a threat to public health.
