A special election in Virginia's 38th state Senate district could determine the majority of the chamber, as Republican Ben Chafin and Democrat Mike Hymes make one final push to voters Tuesday.

Republicans currently hold a one-seat lead in the state Senate, however if Hymes wins Tuesday, Democrats would hold a majority with Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam as the deciding vote.

Republicans hold the majority in the Virginia House of Delegates.
