Two Northern Virginia members of Congress re-introduced a bill to study extending Metrorail deeper into Virginia to Woodbridge, Centreville and Fort Belvoir, they announced Tuesday.

U.S. Reps. Gerry Connolly and Jim Moran, both Virginia Democrats, want the federal government to study extending Metro's Blue Line along the Interstate 95 corridor, through Woodbridge to Potomac Mills in Prince William County; exending the Orange Line to Centreville in western Fairfax County; and extending the Yellow Line along the Route 1 corridor, including Fort Belvoir, in Fairfax and Prince William counties.

"Residents in Prince William and western Fairfax County already experience some of the longest commutes in the nation, and these communities will experience continued growth," Connolly said. "We need to look at solutions that take cars off the roads and provide viable transportation alternatives for our citizens."

The lawmakers introduced the bill two times previously.
